Lord Duncan of McDuff

Hi Y'all, again this is Sally Ann. mack is taking Prednosone(I can't spell), and he is more Mobile, but he is still picky about food. When Mommy gives him his medicine, she has to hold his mouth shut until he swallows. Mommy ask me to ask y'all if there is any furchild or fur parent who knows a better way, Mack and Mommy would be a lot happier. Mommy is going to get some pill pockets tomorrow. Currently, he is taking an antibiotic, the steriod, the Pepcid A/C, the soloxine, half a tramdal at night and morning, the AHCC tablet, and the Essiac tablet. Mommy says the last two can't hurt. So, he has lots of little pills. Most are little pills, but Mommy hates having to hold his mouth closed for him to take his medicine. He is doing better, but we wish he would not be so food picky and take his medicine.

  2. Sending Mack lots of get well thoughts.
Hope he starts to eat a little more, if he wasn't so picky you could hide some of his pills in his food.

  3. We're not going to be much help to Mack, Sally Ann. Mom plops meds and supplements on top of my food with a dollop of applesauce or yogurt to cover them and I woof them right down. I have had pills swiped through the peanut butter jar but now it will have to be cream cheese because peanut butter is no longer acceptable for me.
We are sending you lots of AireZen, Mack!

    Love ya lots,
    Maggie and Mitch

  4. Amazingly, most of us take our pills without a problem because we eat anything quickly (a trick you learn living in a Herd - he who hesitates, does without). BUT, when we are troublesome, our human does the old peanut butter blob trick.

  5. It is hard to take so many pills for sure. My momma used to get string cheese and hide it in there for me. Some of my medicines came in liquid form that could be put on my kibbles or mixed in with nommy baby food.

She was very tricky and sometimes changed and put it in peanut butter or pupcake because I am most clever and learned that my cheese might have something icky inside.

    Hope that helps.

  7. Sally Ann..me gets pills in peanut butter (if they are small, you can get a couple coated in a very tiny bit) and also sometimes muzzer takes pieces of the Merrill (sp) sausage and buries the pills in that. But we don't know about Mack's diet, so maybe that won't work.

Also, with Teka, sometimes muzzer puts the pill in her mouth, holds her jaws shut, and very gently massages her throat to encourage her to swallow.

We're sure your mom knows lots more tricks than that, but we are worriers, so we is worried about Mack, and this makes us feel we are helping.

  9. Hi there Sally Ann,
We are all rallying behind you and your mommy in prayer that Mack will be alright. Frappie here says that mommy also hold his mouth close and blows gently at his nose to make him swallow. Mommy also sometimes puts the meds into cheese cubes to make them look like treats. Hope Mack takes his meds so he can get better. We're sure you are doing a great job in helping your mommy take care of Mack.

Prayers and good vibes to Mack from all of us here.

  10. Sally Ann. We were glad to see an update this morning and to read that Mack is more mobile. Poor fella, all that medicine. But if it's helping, we know he needs to take it all.

Moma has used pill pockets, and Molly loved them. But she also started using bits of Velveeta cheese, with the pill pushed into a tiny little chunk. That's not so good for pups on low protein diets, but we thought we'd suggest it.

We are so glad he's doing better. We're keeping our paws crossed.

    Love

  11. If Mack is up to playing "catch", your Mom could throw him something yummy first, then next throw him something with a pill in it, quickly followed by the item without a pill in it. Basically: with pill, without pill, with pill, without pill.... really quickly.

I have also heard those pill pockets are supposed to work but I don't know anything about them. Sorry.

Here's hoping Mack feels a lot better soon.

  12. We had some luck with Phantom using pill pockets until he figured out what was in them. Cream cheese, peanut butter, yogurt are other good options. Good luck.

  15. We're really happy to know that Mack is feeling better! Our mom puts our pills in bologna or some other form of soft people food. We will usually eat THAT even if we don't want our usual food. Good luck!

  16. Gosh, that sounds like an awful lot of medicine. Hope he feels better with it.
Maybe it mama gives him a fnacy treat straight after he doesn't mind so much the "throwing down the hatch".

  17. My little big sister takes pills every day, and she uses peanut butter - TaiChi doesn't even know that there are pills in her little peanut butter balls.... I like this approach because I get to lick the spoon when Mom is done!
